Head of Office (m/f/d), Bangladesh

The GRC is currently seeking an experienced Head of Office (m/f/d) Bangladesh. The Head of Office is responsible for the overall planning, implementation and monitoring of all programmatic and strategic actions of the GRC in Bangladesh and management of the GRC country office in Dhaka and the sub-office in Cox’s Bazar. The position requires high leadership and team management, diplomacy, coordination, and representation skills as well as programmatic and technical expertise to guide GRC international delegates, local colleagues and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BRCS) colleagues.

The GRC has a long-standing partnership with the Bangladesh Red Crescent working in country since 1990s. Currently, GRC and BDRCS implement six projects with a strong focus on Anticipatory Action and Disaster Risk Reduction and Urban as well as WASH, DRR and Livelihoods. Projects are funded by the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and others.

Starting date: 01.01.2026

Duration: 12 months (with possible extension)

Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh including regular field visits to sub-office in Cox’s Bazar and project sites

Main duties & responsibilities:

  • Maintain a strong partnership with BDRCS and support them in building and strengthening their capacities; 
  • Lead, manage and motivate a team of experienced international and national staff; 
  • Maintain a close cooperation and ensure regular liaison with movement partners and other humanitarian actors and stakeholders;  
  • Security management and continuous analysis and evaluation of the humanitarian and political situation in country; 
  • Grant management, budgeting, financial and narrative reporting, monitoring and compliance;  
  • Oversee and support implementation of ongoing projects in close coordination with BDRCS and the GRC country team; 
  • Strong focus on resource mobilization and fundraising to identify and develop new project and partnership opportunities. 

Required Competencies & Skills:

  • At least five years of senior leadership experience, including management of diverse teams; 
  • At least five years of experience in the field of international cooperation and/or humanitarian aid, including a profound understanding of the Humanitarian landscape, tools and topics;  
  • Expertise in Disaster Risk Reduction, Disaster Management, NSD or Community-based approaches are an asset; 
  • Excellent project management skills, including financial management, monitoring, evaluation and reporting, and thorough understanding of donor guidelines and regulations; 
  • Good understanding of the Movement and full commitment to the Red Cross fundamental principles and Code of Conduct. Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement experience is an asset;  
  • Excellent communication, leadership skills and problem-solving skills as well as intercultural sensitivity, diplomacy and facilitation skills with a proven record of capacity strengthening  
  • Outstanding resilience and stress management skills; 
  • Ability and agreement to adhere to the Red Cross Red Crescent Fundamental Principles;  
  • Ability to complete a thorough medical screening process 'working abroad under specific climate and health conditions'; 
  • Valid International Driving Permit (IDP).  

What we offer you:

You will be part of a highly motivated professional and multicultural team. We offer you a compensation package according to the collective employment agreement of the GRC, an expatriation allowance during your mission as well as the accommodation. In addition to a full insurance package GRC is covering a home flight within a 12-months period of assignment. You will benefit from a comprehensive training package and receive briefings and coaching prior as well as during and after your mission. Medical check-ups and Psychosocial Support Service are included in your assignment.
